Why should I shred my confidential waste?

Identity theft and business espionage is Britain's fastest-growing white-collar crime, threatening the credit ratings of individuals and the reputation of businesses. The Data Protection Act 1998 places a legal responsibility on organisations that steps are taken to safeguard information in their keeping, especially when it is no longer required. Failure to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 could result in fines of up to £5000 – the majority of companies prosecuted by the Data Protection Registrar are found guilty.

Can't I shred the documents myself?

Shredders used in offices are not as effective and very slow. Paper clips and staples have to be removed - employees waste time shredding rather than working. The shredded paper then has to be disposed of. Shred Care will collect and destroy your confidential waste. The shredded paper is then sent for recycling. A Certificate of Destruction is given proving that your sensitive material has been destroyed.

How do your shredders differ from office shredders?

By using a cross-cut shredder the paper is shredded beyong recognition - this provides greater security than strip-cut shredders. The shredder is also designed to shred considerably faster than conventional shredders.

Where do we keep the confidential waste before it is shredded?

We provide a range of secure locked units for depositing sensitive documents. The secure units can only be accessed by our Disposal Engineer and the designated contact at your business. There is no charge for the shredding and recycling of paper - you are only charged for the rental of the secure units.

Do we need to remove staples, paper clips, etc?

There is no need to remove paper clips, staples or binder clips. You can also dispose of any colour paper.

How often will the waste be shredded?

Shredding usually takes place weekly, fortnightly, four weekly or every eight weeks and will depend on the volume of waste your business produces. We can advise on the most suitable collection frequency.

What happens to the paper after it has been shredded?

We recognise the importance of good environmental practice and are committed to best practice in environmental management - the paper we shred is all sent for recycling. Each year thousands of trees are saved by businesses shredding and recycling their confidential paper waste. By using Shred Care you will comply with the Data Protection Act and have a positive impact on helping our environment.

Do you provide services in my area?
